Diaries Guidelines So, you want to write a series or story set in the Diaries World? Great! Here are some base rules all authors have to go by: First, the all important, unbreakable rule: ANY thing you post under the timeline MUST be approved by me, Lord Archive, archive@mich.com or lord_archive@yahoo.com. No exception. Consider me to be your editor. I have to keep everything together in a coherent timeline. If you have something that goes against the Diaries Universe I set up, I have to be able to tell you to change it before you post it to the public. You can allow others to pre-read it, sending it to individuals for the express purpose to look it over for grammar and other errors. But you can't post it to your webpage, fanfiction.net, Media Miner, or any other web page viewable by a large audience. Second rule, also very important: I shouldn't have to repeat myself. When I make a statement of something that needs to be changed, it should be done the first time. I understand that is not always possible with computer problems and such, but I certainly should not have to state the same thing three or four times for no reason. If you want to question why I want something changed, then ask me. Don't keep it in as is and see if I'll miss it. (If I do miss it the next time, but catch it later-- I'll be VERY upset.) Third rule: Imitation is flattery, full copying is plagiarism. Make the ficts your own in terms of characters and story. Don't copy from other sources save where absolutely necessary. A character or story may be BASED on something else, but it can't BE something else. For example the character designs for War Diaries's Sayuri is based on Tenchi Muyo's Ayeka with bits of Kiyone, where Ayeka would drop responsibility to be with Tenchi-- Sayuri puts duty above Iori. However, USING Ayeka is not acceptable. Fourth rule: When naming a series that is to fit into the Diaries Timeline, 'Diaries' should be somewhere in it to help anyone looking for other stories in the timeline, they can find it easier when searching for fanfiction by inputting 'Diaries' into search engines. Fifth Rule- Points of Continuity in Diaries World: These rules I am flexible with to a certain degree if enough story reason is given. When to set the story: NO ONE became Chosen prior to the August 4th 1999, besides those mentioned in Digimon Adventures. Also, all authors are confined to work between August 1999 and January of 2006. No story can be set out side of that time. Where to set the story: Completely new (no characters developed): (Team location does not have to be the exact city named, but relatively near it.) Australian Wanderer Western, Australia Illulisaat, Greenland Caracas, Venezuela Mashhad, Iran Xian, China Kokshetau, Kazakstan Rome, Italy Rio de Janeiro, Brazil Korea Malaysia Africa is almost completely open. Only Egypt, the surrounding countries to Egypt, South Africa and Botswana are unavailable. (Interest has been expressed for Rio de Janeiro and Bali Africa, but position as author not yet confirmed.) Limited information on location: (Has some information on team, be it from Digimon Adventures or existing Diaries) California Melbourne, Florida Chicago Wanderer Moscow, Russia Siberia, Russia Sydney, Australia Hong Kong, China Qinglong Temple, India/China border Puerto Rico Philippines South Africa These are the only available locations. Asking to place a team anywhere else will be ignored. The title of Chosen or Digi-destined: Asian and some South American children with digimon are Chosen, most other areas the children are usually referred to as Digi-destined. There are exceptions to this rule. Age of selection: Only children between the ages of six and (early) thirteen can received a digivice. They can not have reach full onset of puberty at the time they are first recognized as a Chosen. Their partner may appear later in life, as it is the digivice that marks a person a Chosen/Digi-destined, not the digimon. Death and Pregnancy: No more Chosen/Digi-destined can be killed prior to 2005. No more Chosen/Digi-destined can end up pregnant prior to 2006. Special Powers: For those children with inborn abilities, except in rare instances, their powers should not be blatant in any way. The kids should usually not know that they have the power, themselves. Rather if the power is semi-blatant in nature, they believe it is a result of their digivice, which actually enhances natural powers. Digimon: Fan made digimon are usable as long as there are a) there is no suitable official digimon usable for desired plot, b) made by you, c) made by a Diaries Author, or d) the creator gave permission to be used in the Diaries setting, not just your fict. For partners most digimon are allowable save for Diablomon's forms above child level, Memphismon, Galfmon, Apocalymon, Parrellelmon, all of Lucemon forms, Culumon prior to 2005, and dark evolved digimon treated as if they are normal evolutions. Dark evolved digimon are usable if they are achieved through dark evolution. Guilmon and his forms are restricted from use. Also because of numerous partnered Patamon and Plotmon, they are temporarily unusable for new teams. Tsukaimon and Leormon are acceptable replacements. Evolution levels: The first time a digimon evolves to Perfection must meet with my approval, let alone evolution to Ultimate. I want to keep powerful teams to a minimum as there shouldn't be a need for insanely powerful groups. However, I can be easily swayed into allowing evolutions if given good enough story reasons for it to occur. Digimentals: There are only ten base elements, but these are hardly unique items. (Courage, Friendship, Love, Knowledge, Purity, Sincere Faith, Hope, Light, Kindness, Darkness) Golden Digimentals are the province of special children, which of the 200+ partnered with digimon by 2004, only a few of the most powerful children with special powers have produced them and most of those appeared only in dire need prior to gaining Perfection level. Digivice: Most Pre-2002 Chosen/Digi-destined have the old silver/gray Digivice. 2002 on: Most new Chosen/Digi-destined get D-3s, dozens of old digivices upgraded to D-3s as well. D-Terminal: By 2006 everyone receives one for email purposes. Digivice (Original) powers: either jogress or armor, not both. Minor enhancement of natural powers. D-3 powers: Dimensional gate to Digital World. Jogress and armor available. Capable to port anywhere in Digital World in late 2003. Some enhancement of natural abilities. D-Arcs will only be used by those who actually go to a Tamers Universe. They operate per usage in Tamers. (Unless you come up with a good story reason to have your characters go, chances are I won't approve it as a few existing authors already have plans for Tamers dimensions.) Sword Digivices are VERY rare, only 8 exist in 2004. Abilities of the original digivice combined with gate ability and being able to use it as a weapon. Digimentals are not usable, but jogress is possible. Any character besides Gennai, a Gennai clone, a Keeper of Balance, or a Digital God can not make hardware changes to a digivice. Characters can TRY to alter the software though. How to gain full control of a location: 1. Email Lord Archive at archive@mich.com or lord_archive@yahoo.com of your desire to write for a location. If there is any available information on the location, it will be sent to you. 2. Develop a general outline of the series. Doesn't have to be a chapter by chapter outline, rather a simple description of events and listing of key enemy digimon. Send this to Lord Archive for approval. 3. Then write the first chapter of the series and send it to Lord Archive to be approved. (Two chapters in California's case.) archive@mich.com lord_archive@yahoo.com
