Several other companies that I am not involved with own Digimon. That is why I’m in a constant state of Depression. The human characters in this story are my property. This story is set in Lord Archive’s Diaries Universe and has been approved by him. Sadly, Lord Archive isn’t getting any money off this either. Nomadic Diaries Written by Digizane Between A Rock And A Hot Spot Tuesday July 22 Real World Outskirts of Ulaanbaatar Battsetseg deeply took in the fresh air while leaning against a wooden fence. She glanced at her clothe bag to make certain she had everything. The second oldest Mongolian Chosen watched the flocks of sheep aimlessly grazing the enclosed area. The twelve year old Mongolian girl enjoyed being out of the busy, crowded and noisy city. The endless clear blue sky stretched on forever in all directions. Rays from the sun warmed her skin. The quiet wind caused small stirs along the ground. Animals talked to each other in their own particular language. Here, she was filled with calm and peace. To Battsetseg, the life of a nomad was home, and nothing could ever change that. Nara, Battsetseg’s older sister, came up next to her. Nara was similar to her younger sister except for her green eyes and about Buhbatar’s height. Her hair also wasn’t in a ponytail and went past her shoulders. “What’re you up to Battsetseg?” “Oh nothing. Just watching the flock.” Battsetseg said while still gazing at the field. “It’s a shame Harloo never really lost herself with nature as easily as you and I do.” Nara said. A thought occurred to her. “By the way, how is she?” Battsetseg knew what her older sister was trying to do. “Sis is fine. Her teaching career hasn’t taken off yet, but she’s doing alright. Why do you ask?” Nara blinked. “No reason. I was just wondering. I mean… you certainly do visit her a lot now.” A glimpse of something in Battsetseg’s bag caught Nara’s eyes. She almost roughly yanked it out. “What’s this?” Battsetseg blushed upon realization of what Nara had found. “Oh nothing. Just a couple of little sketches that I sometimes do when I’m bored.” Nara looked through the series of small drawings. Most were of groups of sheep, goats, cows or other animals. One in particular was different. It had a picture of four young kids with strange creatures that Nara couldn’t place from the real world or folktale. “You have an interesting imagination, sis.” “Thank you.” Battsetseg politely returned and gathered her stuff. “Give Harloo my greetings,” Nara called out before Battsetseg was almost out of earshot. Nara silently groaned. Her little sister had finished her own set of chores and got to go with Buhbatar and travel the city. Nara meanwhile had to tend to the other animals. At least she could visit her friend Altansetseg later. Apartment in Ulaanbaatar I’m bored. Oyon thought as she laid on her bed, gazing at the ceiling. Her legs lazily hung off her bed as she read a book. She wanted to go with her friends and have adventures, but that was currently not possible. After getting off of work, Mrs. Saihan had found Oyon trying to sneak back home. She had angrily dragged the young girl home and given her a sound talking to and then grounded her for a week. Until then, she was not to go outside except for a few minutes with her mother or grandparents present. While her connection to the internet was only for study purposes, her mother and grandparents had completely disconnected it. Oyon sighed as she continued her studying. She wondered where everyone else was and what they were doing. She really missed her friends and Labramon. Her sentence would be over in a couple of days. At least everyone knew she wouldn’t be joining them for awhile. Elsewhere in the city Battsetseg hummed merrily while waiting for Cholon to show up. The cool shade from building she was leaning against felt calming. She watched as Buhbatar paced with a clearly annoyed expression plastered on his face. Finally, Buhbatar exploded. “That’s it! We’re leaving without him! I’m tired of waiting for him. He’s twenty minutes late.” Cholon calmly stepped out of the shadows of a dark alley. A broad smile was on his face. He spoke to Buhbatar and Battsetseg with his smile still showing. Battsetseg stiffened a giggle. Buhbatar glared angrily at Cholon. Cholon continued to ignore Buhbatar’s ill mannered looks. Buhbatar grinded his teeth and clenched his fists. He seethed, “How long have you been standing there?” Cholon shrugged, still unfazed. “A long time before you got here.” Battsetseg moved herself between the two boys, seeing as a confrontation was about to take place. She smiled sweetly at her friend. “Buhbatar, the important thing is that we’re together. We should focus on our journey.” Buhbatar gave Cholon a look that regarded him as pesky insect that needed to be squashed. He then turned and headed toward their usual place of gathering. Battsetseg slowly lowered herself to Cholon eye level to avoid looking down at him. She spoke softly as not to sound demanding, “I’d be happy if you’d stop teasing my friend. We’re all suppose to be a team.” Cholon nodded with an amused grin. “I understand, but he’s so easy sometimes.” “Hey! Are you two coming!” An annoyed Buhbatar shouted from further down the street. “Coming!” They chorused and hurried to catch up with him. Digital World Once the three had entered the Digital World, they immediately got greeted by their partners. Labramon simply yawned and looked at the others in a sleep like trance. All of them then took off in direction of another village of digimon. After traveling for a couple of hours, they came upon the site. At least, what was left of it. Something burning was the first thing the seven noticed as they hurried into the village. The three humans and four digimon scurried through the mess of knocked down tents and rubble. Getting bored with finding no survivors, Cholon and Bearmon sat down and watched from the shade of a still standing tent. Labramon listened and laughed at a couple of Bearmon’s jokes while she sniffed the ground. Battsetseg continued to look while Elecmon followed. Buhbatar and Tsukaimon were not having any better luck. Brushing the sweat from her brow, she was about to give up when she noticed some clothe trembling. Slowly removing the clothe, Battsetseg shrieked and flew backward when a blue lizard flew straight at her. Elecmon immediately pounced on the creature and pinned it to the ground. The small beast struggled to no avail. Cholon, Buhbatar, their partners and Labramon were immediately at her side to ascertain the situation. “Letmego! Letmego!” cried the freighted creature. By the sound of the voice, the creature was female. The lizard continued to struggle fruitlessly. “It’s alright. We have no intention to harm you,” Buhbatar assured. Elecmon let her partner cradle the still shivering V-Mon. Battsetseg’s touch and comforting speech seemed to calm the poor animal slightly. Buhbatar watched in silent admiration of his friend. No matter what, Battsetseg always managed to calm and relax those around her. There was just a certain air about her that did that to people. One of the reasons he made sure to protect his friend. Cholon stared in amazement of this rare development. Normally, a wild digimon would attack the small group, and they would end up chasing it away. This girl had managed to pacify another beast and done so almost without thinking. He wondered if she was as naïve as the camel in Mongolian folktale. “What happened to you?” Battsetseg asked softly while stroking the frightened lizard. Elecmon stood nearby and was slightly upset with the attention V-Mon was given. “A group of Boarmon came. They attacked us for no reason. All my friends…gone.” V-Mon cried into the young girl’s chest, drenching it with tears. Battsetseg pretended to not notice. The partner digimon stood around in sympathy. Buhbatar clenched his fists. Cholon bit down on his lip and turned to Bearmon, then the canine digimon. “Labramon, do have any idea where they went to?” After sniffing a little more, she replied, “This way.” Buhbatar spoke for the group. “ Let’s go.” Labramon’s nose had been correct with the direction. The five Boarmon were found knocking a Floramon around in a seemly playful game. Upon noticing the three children and five digimon, the three pigs snorted and let the plant escape. “Did you attack that village back in the east?” Buhbatar asked while trying to not look frightened of the creatures. “Yeah, so what of it? What kind of digimon are you?” Asked a Boarmon as he stepped up and took position of leader over the others. “We’re huMANS,” Cholon replied drying. The group had been asked the same question every visit to the Digital World. Everyone was getting slightly sick of it. “So what? You can’t do anything about it runts,” a female Boarmon said boastfully. Cholon unclipped his D3 and held it up while a light passed over Bearmon. The young Chosen replied, “We’ll see.” Grizzmon was instantly in Bearmon’s place and quickly slashed through a boar. The others could only watch in horror as their comrade was no more. Battsetseg felt as though she had swallowed her tongue and almost fell off balance. She could only gasp at Cholon’s act of disregard for the life of another sentient life form. Buhbatar angrily whirled Cholon around to face him. “What are you doing! We came here to stop them, not slaughter them!” Cholon emotionlessly threw off Buhbatar’s grip. “They deserve what they get. What did you think they would do? Repent?” The diverted attention was all the Boarmon needed to open fire on the group. “Nose Blaster!” The crew dived out the way of the flames. Having gotten use to his larger form, Grizzmon also was able to dodge. He was met with a set of horns to the chest and then a stream of fire to the back. The large bear staggered and was met with another ‘Bullet Attack’ from the enemy digimon. “No!” Cholon cried seeing his friend was beginning to weaken. Buhbatar was surprised that Cholon’s partner had fared as well against the group’s attacks. This was the second time he’d seen Grizzmon fight. The older boy had only used Unimon four times before now. Never had he gone in for the kill though. Tsukaimon became Unimon and took to the sky to allow Grizzmon an opening. Battsetseg, Elecmon, Labramon and V-Mon watched nearby. Labramon was about useless without Oyon and was irritated by the fact. The female V-Mon watched from the safety of Battsetseg’s chest. The lizard watched as her new friends fought. She wanted to help make the vile beast pay, but she sadly lacked any real power. She felt helpless and sad at this fact. She hated the Boarmon for causing this mess, and she hated being in a weak Child form and wanted to personally delete the pigs. If only there was a way to help her friends… The female V-Mon felt an energy enter her and jumped out of the Mongolian’s arms. A light surrounded the lizard and caused her to grow. “V-Mon evolve to V-Dramon!” “Well, this is going well,” Elecmon noted at the chaos that had erupted. V-Dramon was firing ‘V-Arrows’ almost wildly. Being the only other combatant on the ground, Grizzmon was being knocked back and forth between two Boarmon. Unimon was carrying Buhbatar and having a hard time to find an opening. “We should help,” Battsetseg submitted. “Are you sure you’re ready?” Elecmon asked in concern, as she didn’t know if her partner was willing to fully unleash her. A nod. “I’m ready, just don’t kill anyone, okay?” The Mongolian girl pleaded. “You have my word,” Elecmon confirmed while a light incased the red lizard. “Elecmon evolve to Sheepmon!” “Wool Grenade!” Sheepmon cried as an array of blasts covered the battlefield. With another Adult added to the fight, the Boarmon were quickly overwhelmed. Just when the last was about to fall, Grizzmon ran out of energy. Cholon cursed as another fire attack was about to reach his partner. Sheepmon intercepted the blast and shrank down to Elecmon. In the worry for her partner, Battsetseg ran toward the two Child level digimon. This was not a good idea as Boarmon opened fire on her. Battsetseg barely dodged and skidded across the ground the missed attack. Just when she thought things couldn’t get worse, she felt hot breath against her face. Battsetseg closed her eyes and shivered. If the beast attacked, there was no way for her to dodge. Wind suddenly rushed through her hair as a wave of fuzzy particles had passed over her. Her eyes shot open wide as nothing was left of the Boarmon beyond dispersing black particles. Through the mark of death, she saw Buhbatar and Unimon's shared sad but angry gazes at what had been a living, intelligent creature. Elecmon was slowly approaching her partner. Buhbatar was at her side with Unimon already beginning to devolve to Tsukaimon. “Are you alright?” Buhbatar asked while offering her a hand up. Battsetseg slapped his hand away. “You didn’t have to kill that digimon, you know,” she replied harshly as she dusted herself off and walked away. In truth, Battsetseg was upset about the loss of life, but she was more upset at herself for being of no use in the battle and putting Buhbatar in that difficult position. Normally, Buhbatar would be furious for the lack of gratitude, but he was in shock from how Battsetseg had reacted. He had never seen her upset like that. Sure, every once in a while he done something stupid to get her mad at him. This seemed different though, and he was completely loss at how to handle the situation. At that moment he wondered how their group had managed to survive so long without killing a digimon. The supposed leader began to have doubts about whether or not he had done the right thing. Perhaps he could have tried to reason with the beast once more or had Unimon use a non lethal attack. Buhbatar sighed. There was no use questioning his actions now. Nothing he did could bring the beast back. So lost in his thoughts, Labramon tugging on his deel almost went unnoticed. The dog looked at Buhbatar with concern in her eyes. “Don’t worry about those Boarmon, Buhbatar. Digimon don’t die. Their data gets reconfigured and they’re reborn later on in life. Though, the chances of running into the exact same digimon and having them remember you is rather unlikely.” Buhbatar nodded happily, allowing the new information to sink in. At least his damage wasn’t necessary permanent. His only problem now was how long Battsetseg would be mad at him. The V-Dramon thanked the Chosen by allowing them all a ride to the portal. Cholon turned to next to Battsetseg and asked, “Why are you the way are? Don’t you think your trusting behavior is naïve and stupid?” Battsetseg had half a mind to knock the younger boy off the dragon and let him walk the rest of the way. Or just leave his in the desert. “I’m just the type of person who tries to get along with everyone,” Battsetseg replied cutely. “Yeah, you should try and learn from her, Cholon,” chimed Buhbatar in an effort to shut the boy up and get on Battsetseg’s good side. This earned everyone, except Cholon, a laugh. Battsetseg simply smiled. Author’s Notes: Between my submerging into the realm of the Matrix Online and my quest to get my degree, I figured this chapter would be out A LOT later. This chapter was harder since Battsetseg is probably my favorite created character. (Not just because she’s a girl!) My characters have been given a proper introduction and now the story can move ahead in time. What did Cholon mean when comparing Battsetseg to a camel? In Mongolian folktale, there is a story about the camel. It says that the camel at one time had magnificent antlers and a long tail. However, the deer and horse envied the camel’s beautiful appearance. The deer asked to borrow the camel’s antlers, and the camel loaned the antlers to the deer. The horse asked for the camel’s tail and was also granted his request. The two were suppose to return their gifts the next day. However, they kept putting off the deal and simply broke their word. To this day, the camel still believes the two will fulfill their promise. Meanwhile, the horse was tamed to serve man. The deer would loose his antlers once a year and have to hide in shame. What is Cholon’s problem? Will Oyon return to her group? Will Doumon make an appearance soon? Will the machines return Neo’s remains? Why was my avatar not allowed to have one of the Oracle’s cookies? Who drank my Pepsi! Why the heck do I live here? All these questions, except a few of them, will be answered. Soon. Till next time.
